so you guys could learn more about the behind the scenes positions on a film set as we go along listen each crew position and comment which one interests you the most let’s begin hi my name is Ava and I am the writer and producer of frames what is framed about framed is about a young woman who lives in a painting who wants to be a human so she travels from painting to painting along the gallery wall in hopes of reaching the human world seeing it come to life is just really surreal and you’re my big as well I’m very proud of you oh thank you my name is Kirby I am the director of framed basically the director comes up with a vision for the script speaks with actors and kind of facilitates the production as well as the whole you know aesthetic of the film itself hi I’m Alessia and I’m the producer of all right what is your job here on set it’s basically organizing everything that is happening scheduling like locking locations preparing lunges and taking care of the crew in general so that the creatives can think of the creative arts and not worrying about like all the logistics Maximilian Helfman I am the first assistant director on the set of frames I yell and move pieces around and hope that the pieces move on their own favorite part about working on is that I’ve never worked with such a large crew and I’ve never worked with such a amount of equipment so while it’s been a little bit stressful it’s all new what’s your role here on set I’m a PA it’s a production assistant we sort of just help out where we’re needing and whether it be grab coffee pick up things move stuff it could be anything I’m ready I’m Valerie I’m doing an RPA job I’m an art PA hi I’m Lexi um and I’m the hair and makeup artist for framed yeah I got to design all of the makeup and hair looks that you see on screen this is my little belt I’m just a strapped with some lip gloss different brushes Anita I’m scripty today so script supervisor like I basically look for continuity but I write down um like what’s the director’s favorite takes and what takes are unusable and stuff and if we have a reset as the days gone on I’ve been taking more notes and now we have like a nice little chart director’s favorites that I’ve highlighted and taking notes of like if actors say different lines than they’re supposed to or if like we’ve combined some scenes to save some time and I write that down too and I also have a physical copy everything’s going smoothly and correctly it’s a straight line if they mess up it’s a squiggle my name is Jane and I play Cecilia tell us a little bit more about your character she’s basically a woman who is in a painting and she realizes she doesn’t want to live in that painting anymore she’s basically a character who starts out knowing nothing and essentially grows up in the course of like 10 to 12 minutes hello there my name is Michaela lizac and I’m shooting behind the scenes and social media content Celine I’m doing a wardrobe assist today I love shopping I love fashion and I like making people look good and especially period pieces I love um like researching and that stuff like that we just wrapped and I finished getting all the behind the scenes footage for Ava’s short it was a fun day today I was editing their promotional behind the scenes video and also just getting some stuff for you guys to see about the behind the scenes of a short film it has been a long day this morning I woke up and I woke up at the time I was supposed to be at the van my alarm did not go off so I was like running trying to get to set I did not have time to even get out of my pajamas and do my makeup or my hair or anything I came to set looking a little bit crazy but I got what I needed to get done and hopefully helped out a little bit and tomorrow you’ll see a little bit more [Music] all right everybody day two of filming for today’s shoot it actually took place in a beautiful Art Gallery in Santa Monica and as you can see the crew is setting up for the shots that they’re gonna get today and I got even more interviews for people and positions that we didn’t get to learn about the day before but before we get to that here’s a little scene sneak peek and come on hi I’m Graham Byers I’m the DP Director of Photography otherwise known as a cinematographer what are your job duties include I’m in charge of leading the camera team but I also work very closely with the director to accomplish their Vision the look and the feel visually of what we’re trying to accomplish explain to us what this is just kind of what are the most important components of your camera and like how you use it because this looks kind of intimidating we start in the front so this is the camera right first of all this is just the camera this year’s what we call a matte box and this allows you to have filters in your camera so for example you see this right here this tray comes out you can drop in filters to change the look of the lens that you’re shooting through and that’s the lens right here right here we’ve got our Motors this is for Focus right here this is my zoom control so I can zoom with this hand unit back here and have our micro floors to keep going down the camera this is the camera itself this is what we call the area Alexa yeah my name is Jasper Boykin III I’m an actor I’m playing a security guard that’s getting too close to the art so I got to protect it can you tell us what your Journey’s been like as an actor well I got my degree in theater from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte then moved out here was working um then didn’t really start acting until right after lockdown really since then it’s just been hitting the ground running submitting to everything I can do you have an agent I don’t have an agent um it has right right it is easy to get jobs myself like I said you got to make sure those you’re submitting to those emails I submit to hundreds of castings every week hi my name is Bibi katsina I’m playing the role of dot so I’m one of the actors on set being an I turn set is a blast a lot of the work comes in the preparation it’s you know preparing for your role learning your lines understanding your character’s backstory what they want what they’re doing all of that kind of stuff and on a practical level it’s kind of funny a lot of being on set as an actor is waiting it’s like hurry up and wait is the thing they always say like you’re kind of just like sitting and prepared and then when they call for you you’re there and you have to be you know in the moment hi I’m Sarah shell I’m second acap so it’s like the second camera assistant I’ve basically about the swapping lenses and cars hi I’m Gordon Horowitz I’m the key group here what does a key grip do the key grip works with the grips to handle all the rigging and make sure basically anything that requires gloves the grips and the key room are going to work on hi my name is Cass I am the production slash costume designer production designing you come up with sort of the visual plan for the movie Just what is the physical objects that are going to be in each scene I’m Bella and the gaffer also what does a Gaffer do we’re in charge of lighting so we work under the DP to make sure that all of the lights and the lighting schematic I come to Russian on set making sure everything’s angled properly neg or diffusion or whatever yeah so can you tell us actually about this so I see a lot of black paneling and yeah these are next so essentially what we’re trying to do is we have skylights overhead that are essentially putting bringing a lot of daylight which we don’t want we’re shooting tungsten which is a warmer color temperature versus what we’re getting from the Sun so this is kind of trying to control that we’re trying to get as minimal as that as possible because that’s not the color temperature we’re shooting with what are these sheets used for so what is that called This is a diffusion so this is a uh fourth sign language it’s called Silent print because when you move it it’s safe it’s getting blown in the wind it’s not as loud that’s my understanding I think other people have different opinions on why it’s called that I could be wrong pretty it’s softening up the lights that are behind here so this is this is called this book light essentially so what it is we’re taking a light source bouncing it into something else and then diffusing that bounce and that is the end of the video I tried recording in outro but literally the wind was so bad you cannot hear anything so I’m just gonna do a voiceover thank you guys so much for watching be sure to go follow at framed short on Instagram for updates on the short film so you guys can watch it yourself if you
